Schools Minister Nick Gibb visited Imperial College in London on 11 June 2012 to meet pupils and teachers taking part in the Dux Awards Scheme. This event and one happening at the University of Warwick, are the first in a series of events taking place in each of the Russell Group universities. The Dux Awards Scheme aims to encourage the recognition and reward of top performing pupils in Year 9 (14 year olds). It is also aimed at encouraging higher aspirations by rewarding one or two high-performing pupil from every secondary school with a visit a Russell Group University, accompanied by a teacher.
